For some time now, I have been working on a reportage about my native Italy, in which I discover that the countries heritage and traditions can be related to its current situation. I began in Italys deep south and would like to work all my way up to the north documenting on its diversities, but also the turmoil that afflicts the country and its people. I began with a series about small farmers in Italys Le Marche region, which also happens to be the region where I was born. Whilst I was working, I realized that I was dealing with a group of people who in a few years from now would no longer exist. The type of work these people do is too arduous and the yield is minimal and so this type of simple work dose not conform with today with is modern and comfortable lifestyle which is what most people imagine for themselves. So I decided through a photographic medium to document the work and lives of these people of whom would otherwise have been forgotten in a few years. Following this insight , I set to work I want to create a snapshot of my country, showing on the one hand the countries current situation and on the other the rapid changes and decay. I would like to show the country its people, the cities, regions and landscape with all its diversities. So far I have met alot of people who have told me about their hopes,dreams desires and fears. These people allowed me to have an intimate glimpse into their homes and hearts and lives. As I continue working on this project I am experiencing a country with great tradictions, a country in danger of losing its roots and its heritage, but also a country characterized by great Political, economical and social disparities.
Da qualche tempo sto lavorando a un reportage sull’Italia: desidero creare un’istantanea del mio paese che ne mostri lo stato quo da un lato, ma, dall’altro renda conto sia del rapido cambiamento e, purtroppo, anche del profondo decadimento. In questo lavoro vivo una terra di grandi contrasti, un paese che rischia di perdere le sue radici e il suo patrimonio, ma anche un paese caratterizzato da grandi differenze, economiche, politiche e sociali. È un lavoro molto complesso, intenso ed anche faticoso: a volte devo tornare più volte in un posto per guadagnare la fiducia delle persone ma, una volta ottenuta, ho incontrato molti italiani che mi hanno raccontato le loro speranze, i sogni, le paure e i desideri, hanno aperto le loro case e mi hanno permesso di entrare nella loro intimità, cosa che poi ho cercato, con rispetto, di trasferire nelle mie foto. Ho iniziato dal profondo del sud e voglio arrivare fino al nord per documentare le differenze, ma anche la voglia di vita del paese e della sua gente. Ho iniziato fotografando i piccoli agricoltori nelle Marche, la mia Regione d’origine, cercandoli e parlando con loro mi sono reso conto che è una categoria che, tra qualche anno, non esisterà più. Troppo pesante il lavoro, troppo bassa la resa, poca compatibilità con il moderno. Ho pensato di immortalare in foto queste persone, le loro vite e il loro lavoro, così da evitare che siano dimenticati nel giro di qualche anno e questo desiderio si è trasformato e ampliato nel lavoro che presento.
